  • English

The rules and principals of English grammar, word usage, and language mechanics are taught according to the conventions of Standard English. Students apply acquired skills when communicating through both written and spoken language.

    Math

Mathematical concepts in computation and problem solving are taught through the use of textbooks, workbooks, and enrichment materials. A hands-on approach to problem solving is utilized throughout the math curriculum. Math manipulative tools, games, computational drill, basic skills practice, and IXL are used to teach and reinforce math concepts.

    Science

Science is taught through the use of textbooks, computer technology, lab resource equipment, and class projects. Hands-on models, visual aids, videos, demonstrations, and experiments facilitate differentiated learning.

    Reading

Basic reading skills are taught through the use of a state-approved, standards-based basal reading series. Phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills are emphasized. Students are exposed to a wide variety of children's literature through the Accelerated Reader program. Novels, biographies, and reference books are routinely used as components of special projects and activities. Oral and independent reading, as well as listening and speaking are practiced daily. Students are also encouraged to read outside of the classroom setting.

    Religion

The Catholic faith is taught through daily structured religion lessons that emphasize the fundamentals of our faith, the doctrines of Catholicism, and sacramental preparation. Catholic values are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students and teachers of each grade level take part in the planning and celebrating of children's masses throughout the school year. Students are encouraged to live according to the teachings of Christ.

    Social Studies

Concepts and skills relating to citizenship, geography, economics, and government are the main focus of the lower school social studies curriculum. Local, regional, and global connections help students to develop community awareness, as well as to learn about the United States and other parts of the world. Presentations, research projects, and field trips enrich the learning experience.

    Spelling

Students are challenged to master new spelling words on a weekly basis. Spelling words often include vocabulary words as well as content words from all areas of the curriculum.

    Enrichment

Technology classes, health/physical education, Spanish, music, library, and art are part of our regular curriculum. Students participate in these enrichment classes weekly.

    Technology

Each classroom is equipped with a Newline Interactive Board, a document camera, and a class et of i-Pads. The science lab is technology based with computers, graphing calculators, and CBL probes. This technology and its access, provide students with a creative and innovative approach in various research and core curriculum projects. By integrating technology in the teaching process to provide a multi-media approach, the needs of the varied types of learners are being addressed.
